Evan had two parties to celebrate turning one. On his actual birthday him and I spent lots of good quality time together during the day. We made cupcakes, played lots, went to Starbucks (for me) and then we went to Crocodile Baby and bought him some new shoes, now that he can walk. As far as the walking goes, he is capable because if there's nothing around to hold on to and with some coaxing he will do it but he much prefers crawling... it's easier and safer. That night we had a joint birthday party with Anna. They are only a half an hour apart in age but after a year of watching these two grow it's amazing how different they are. Each has such a unique personality. The highlight of the evening was watching Evan and Anna eat their birthday cupcakes. We stripped Evan down to his diaper in preparation for what we expected to be a very messy procedure. Anna tore right into hers and within seconds was covered in chocolate. Evan, sitting next to her and looking at her almost with a look of disgust, gingerly dipped one finger into the icing and licked it off. You can see in the pictures that towards the end Evan got a little more dirty but most of that was what rubbed off of Anna's hands when she touched him. We all just stood there and laughed, it was hilarious. Brian thinks it's because of his parenting that Evan is so neat and tidy... I think he may be right.

A couple days later we had the immediate family over for another birthday party. Brian's family came over from the island for the day and my family was there as well. We tried to keep the number of guests to a minimum because we didn't want it to be too overwhelming for Evan. That said, he still managed to fall asleep in Brian's arms while everyone was still there.

Earlier that day we took Evan and Emma to the playground at our place and Evan went down the slide for the first time (with Brian). He loved it. Then we had more food, more gifts and more cake. Evan was a little better at the cake eating this time but he still stayed pretty clean.
